Warren, Will, and Dave met years ago. They all shared a common love for music. Dave and Warren formed a band to play jazz standards and forced Will to join. Soon after, the focus shifted from jazz to rock and the Vultures were formed. Warren plays the guitar and sings on occasion. Will plays the bass. Dave plays drums. Their influences range far and wide, causing the resulting music to walk the fine line between punk, skate-surf, and sludge. To see them play live is like a sonic assault that will leave you happily brutalized. Drawing from their love of free form and improv, every set is different. Their songs are constantly evolving.
This record is a document of what the Vultures do.

The Mountain Movers were started by Dan Greene and Rick Omonte of New Haven, CT. in order to begin recording as many of Dan's songs as possible. Dan has hundreds of songs. Some of those songs have been singles of the week in The London Times, NME, and Melody Maker, recorded for a John Peel Session, many live BBC (throughout UK and Ireland) and XFM (London) broadcasts, as well as stages all over the East Coast of America and Europe.

Dan (guitar and singing) is a writer, a Justice of the Peace who has officiated nine weddings, a graduate with a master's in religion, an editor of the annual journal of poetry from Connecticut prisons, and for the last decade, an elementary school teacher who teaches all secular subjects at an Orthodox Jewish school. He also paints, draws, and makes books of poems, plays, and strange illustrated stories. His artwork can be seen on The Mountain Movers records and posters. Rick (bass, percussion, and noise) is an art installer, and also promotes live music events under the tag Shaki Presents, including his Sunday night series at Bar in New Haven which books bands from all over the world, like Dungen and Animal Collective. Together, they have been fortunate to record with many great musicians in the area. Dan also plays for The Butterflies of Love, while Rick plays for Crooked Hook.

The Mountain Movers is a collective with many interchangeable band members performing consistently solid songs. They have put out two full-length releases on Safety Meeting Records in New Haven: We've Walked in Hell (2006) and Let's Open Up the Chest (2008) which was recorded on 2 inch tape at Seaside Studio in Brooklyn. They also have a picture disc split vinyl 7 inch of the hit Fate's On Your Side. The first record was released in 2006 throughout the U.K. and Europe by Fortuna Pop records in London.

In addition to supporting Let's Open Up the Chest, they are hard at work on multiple recordings, which will be released in the near future. Live, they move from a 3 piece to a 6 piece, sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, but always dynamic, romantic, hypnotic, and entertaining. The Mountain Movers have shared the stage with Wolf Parade, The Akron Family, Josephine Foster, Gringo Star, The Lemonheads, and Ted Leo.

Come celebrate the final days of Rudy's old location with an extraordinary evening of rock n roll.
We're bringing La Strada back to the Elm City to entertain us and New Haven's Goodnight Blue Moon will be on hand as well. A while back I talked about the new La Strada record "New Home" coming out and it looks like we're going to have copies finally available for you to pick up at the show. Do not miss this show, it's jammed packed with goodness. It's going to have strings, accordion, incredible vocal harmonies, pop hooks, frites, binge drinking, air conditioning, records, and there's a good chance that a lot of us are gonna get laid. Sounds like one hell of a night if you ask me, but don't take my word for it. Come see for yourself.

This is an Air Conditioned Event for your comfort.

Safety Meeting Presents

Titles' Record Release Party for "Dirt Bell"

at Cafe Nine, Saturday, June 12th, 9pm, $4

EULA opens

9pm $4

Here's the deal:

Titles has been working hard recording their newest record for the past year and the result is pretty astounding. "Dirt Bell" is their most involved, lush, and sonically pleasing recording to date. We're all pretty excited about this one and can't wait for you to hear it.

We got CDs for sale this time around, as well as a small pressing of vinyl, 100 records, hand numbered, includes CDs, hand silk-screened jackets.

Here's some early press:

"Among a wasteland of bands attempting to 'beachify' their sounds - [Titles] actually succeeds in channeling the whimsy and experimentation of Brian Wilson's finally-finished Smile."- Air & Sea Battle

"...considering singer Brad Amorosino's impressive songwriting and simple croon, the wonderfully lush guitar tones and the tact with which they blend the elements of dark and light in their music. I seriously cannot think of one band that Titles sounds like; they're working off their own palate."- Portland Mercury

Opening up the night will be New Haven's own, EULA. For those of you who aren't familiar with them, take notice, cause these guys rock. This three piece delivers the post-punk in a manner reminiscent of classic early 90s indie rock such as Bikini Kill and Sleater Kinney.

While the rest of CT is going to be skanking it up at Toad's, we'll be delivering the rock at Rudy's. Chances are you probably saw Skeletonbreath and The Vultures rock Cafe Nine about a year ago for the Vultures record release show, but if not, here's your big chance to get your face melted off by some of the area's best musicians.
Here's the Deal:

The Vultures are a surf, punk, skate, whatever-works power trio that's constantly evolving but never laming out. We released their LP, Chingus a while back and those who own it will tell you it's 12 inches of pure fucking awesomeness. We still have a couple copies left, so bring some extra loot with you.

The 420 Blackbirds make the psychobilly music in such a fashion that it makes all other "-billy" bands sound lame and samey. They used to rule the late nights of many a dive bar as the Danglers, before the man made them change their name in a lame attempt to subdue their rock powers. Luckily for us, they're still the same band, rock just as hard, and bring on the good times just like you remember.

The last time Skeletonbreath played in New Haven, many people lost their minds and got a little sweaty to the unlikely sonic assault of drums, bass, and violin. Their Safety Meeting LP, Eagle's Nest Devil's Cave, is one of the most unique records we've had the pleasure of working. Trust me when I tell you, these guys can put on a show.

Hey Everyone,
We just put up 4 new records in the merch store! Check it out, it's all really awesome stuff. Here's a short list of what's what:

Kimono Draggin' - Space Orphans CD
&
Kimono Draggin' - We Are The Dudes CD
Two records from one of the area's more unique rock bands. These two records deliver the goods while never taking themselves too seriously. It's a funhouse ride through indie rock, complete with lush tones, mad scientist scale experimentation, constantly changing tempos, ridiculous sing-along moments, and hooks on top of hooks.

Title Tracks - Every Little Bit Hurts 7"
&
Title Tracks - It Was Easy LP
I've been jawing on about Title Tracks for quiet a while now. This is John Davis' (ex drummer from Q And Not U) newest power pop project. The 7" is their first release through DC's finest Dischord Records, and the full length is our newest introduction to their catalog. The record sounds pretty amazing, but don't just take my word for it. Here's what Pitchfork has to say about it:

Saturday, Feb 20th

Blood Warrior
Blood Warrior is the culmination of a life long collaborative desire between Greg Jamie (O'Death), Joey Weiss (Super Monster), Kristin Kellas and Rubin Berger (Musee Mecanique, Laura Gibson, Mirah). Based in New York but made up of members who spend most of their time on the road internationally, Blood Warrior is a unique take on indie-folk and more traditional music of the Americas. Started as a recording project at Greg Jamie's childhood home and finished at a home studio in Portland, OR, the band has now realized their music in a live setting. Blood Warrior's distinct sound, consisting of guitars, casios, chord organs, autoharp, marching drums, lots of percussion and four part vocal harmonies, is ripe with unexpected hooks while nodding to roots in folk, gospel and psychedelia.
Sidewalk Dave
Sidewalk Dave is a four piece band out of New Haven, CT. Since 2007, their Alt-Country/Aggressive-Folk has conjured up the deep instinct for rebellious brotherhood... "whiskey smuggling fellow felons on their last breathe before the weather clears."
Get Haunted
Sticks and stones, Indian bones, and a box buried in a mound. Ghost stories on ghost instruments. "Enter New London's Get Haunted, Joey Macrino's post-Royale Brothers band. It's a primitive and marked sonic departure in which Macrino learned banjo as though from an Appalachian sin-eater. At the same time, his wife, Sarah, seemingly learned drums from beating on the skulls discovered in the crawl space of a serial killer who happened to really like the Louvin Brothers"- Rick Koster, New London Day
Ponybird
"These sparse folk tunes are spooky and smoky, dark but warm, the kind that would sound best on a back porch sometime in mid-September with a bonfire crackling and a cooler nearby. Every song is played in 3/4 time (think waltz), each with its own trance-inducing properties. The arrangements are simple and therefore shine -- there's no extraneous instrumentation." - Mike Sembos, New Haven Advocate

Matt Thomas knows how to write a song. That much is certain. He's been the front person for many a band; In Vain, Leaves of Lothlorien, Weigh Down, Short Pants Romance, and the short lived but still talked about Orange Forest. Amidst the chaos of the last couple years, as one band fell apart and another reunited, Matt started writing songs for himself, bringing them home and recording them in his house at the end of late nights, early mornings, and whenever he found the inspiration. The end result, "Cloak Of Nouns And Loss" (SMR011) is a beautiful collection of pop psychedelic folk bliss, owing as much to Brian Wilson as to Roy Wood, complete with highs and lows, perfect harmonies and lush tones. With the exception of a bass line here and a drum track there, the album was recorded, mixed, and performed by Matt Thomas alone. Now, with Weigh Down on hiatus, Matt has assembled the Bearington band to bring his bedroom recordings to life.

A little something about the bands:

M.T. Bearington - Chances are you already know these guys, and if not, you used to like one of their old bands. However, if that's not the case, M.T. Bearington makes driving psych-pop music that's sure to get under your skin and make a home in your head.

La Strada - These guys make undeniably charming pop music that's a little chamber pop, a little indie pop, and a whole lotta fun. Look for an LP from these guys this spring from us.

The Fictional West - Limited by their non-fictional surroundings, these New Haven natives decided to combine their varied interests in indie pop, 80s new wave sounds and satirical themes.
