New Records in the Merch Store!

February 24, 2010

Hey Everyone,
We just put up 4 new records in the merch store! Check it out, it's all really awesome stuff. Here's a short list of what's what:

Kimono Draggin' - Space Orphans CD
&
Kimono Draggin' - We Are The Dudes CD

Two records from one of the area's more unique rock bands. These two records deliver the goods while never taking themselves too seriously. It's a funhouse ride through indie rock, complete with lush tones, mad scientist scale experimentation, constantly changing tempos, ridiculous sing-along moments, and hooks on top of hooks.

Title Tracks - Every Little Bit Hurts 7"
&
Title Tracks - It Was Easy LP

I've been jawing on about Title Tracks for quiet a while now. This is John Davis' (ex drummer from Q And Not U) newest power pop project. The 7" is their first release through DC's finest Dischord Records, and the full length is our newest introduction to their catalog. The record sounds pretty amazing, but don't just take my word for it. Here's what Pitchfork has to say about it:

Blood Warrior, Sidewalk Dave, Get Haunted, & Ponybird!

February 8, 2010

BloodWarrior, Sidewalk Dave, Get Haunted, & Ponybird

Safety Meeting + Manic Presents:
Live at Cafe Nine
Saturday, Feb 20th

Blood Warrior
Blood Warrior is the culmination of a life long collaborative desire between Greg Jamie (O'Death), Joey Weiss (Super Monster), Kristin Kellas and Rubin Berger (Musee Mecanique, Laura Gibson, Mirah). Based in New York but made up of members who spend most of their time on the road internationally, Blood Warrior is a unique take on indie-folk and more traditional music of the Americas. Started as a recording project at Greg Jamie's childhood home and finished at a home studio in Portland, OR, the band has now realized their music in a live setting. Blood Warrior's distinct sound, consisting of guitars, casios, chord organs, autoharp, marching drums, lots of percussion and four part vocal harmonies, is ripe with unexpected hooks while nodding to roots in folk, gospel and psychedelia.

Sidewalk Dave
Sidewalk Dave is a four piece band out of New Haven, CT. Since 2007, their Alt-Country/Aggressive-Folk has conjured up the deep instinct for rebellious brotherhood... "whiskey smuggling fellow felons on their last breathe before the weather clears."
Mp3s: http://www.myspace.com/sidewalkdave

Get Haunted
Sticks and stones, Indian bones, and a box buried in a mound. Ghost stories on ghost instruments. "Enter New London's Get Haunted, Joey Macrino's post-Royale Brothers band. It's a primitive and marked sonic departure in which Macrino learned banjo as though from an Appalachian sin-eater. At the same time, his wife, Sarah, seemingly learned drums from beating on the skulls discovered in the crawl space of a serial killer who happened to really like the Louvin Brothers"- Rick Koster, New London Day
Mp3s: http://www.myspace.com/gethauntedmusic

Ponybird "These sparse folk tunes are spooky and smoky, dark but warm, the kind that would sound best on a back porch sometime in mid-September with a bonfire crackling and a cooler nearby. Every song is played in 3/4 time (think waltz), each with its own trance-inducing properties. The arrangements are simple and therefore shine -- there's no extraneous instrumentation." - Mike Sembos, New Haven Advocate

The Fictional West

A little something about the bands:

M.T. Bearington - Chances are you already know these guys, and if not, you used to like one of their old bands. However, if that's not the case, M.T. Bearington makes driving psych-pop music that's sure to get under your skin and make a home in your head.

La Strada - These guys make undeniably charming pop music that's a little chamber pop, a little indie pop, and a whole lotta fun. Look for an LP from these guys this spring from us.

The Fictional West - Limited by their non-fictional surroundings, these New Haven natives decided to combine their varied interests in indie pop, 80s new wave sounds and satirical themes.

New Vultures & Quiet Life Preview!!

August 5, 2009

Alright kids,
it's time to freak out! We got some new music for you to check out. The recently completed Vultures record is off being pressed, and the record release show is set for a Saturday, Sept 19th date at Cafe Nine. We're pretty psyched with this one, we took the Vultures to Firehouse 12 for tracking and had Greg Giorgio from Tarquin Studios on hand to engineer and help make everything sound nice. The end result is pure rock brilliance!

Meanwhile, on the other coast, Quiet Life just finished recording their new record with engineer extraordinaire, Beau Raymond (Devendra Banhart, Little Joy). So far, it's sounding pretty damn good. We're not sure when this one's gonna drop, but we'll keep you all informed once we know more.

Anyways, check out the tracks, I'm sure you're gonna like what you hear:

Skeletonbreath Record Release Show!

May 27, 2009

doomstarcafe9.jpgThe vinyl release of the new Skeletonbreath record,
Eagle's Nest, Devil's Cave,
is finally upon us.
We're pretty psyched about this record and are hoping you all can make it out to
Cafe Nine
on Thursday, June 4th.
It's a Manic Productions event, Doomstar is headlining and the Procedure Club opens.
$6 gets you in the door.

Here's some info on the band:

While the name Skeletonbreath might suggest ghostly figures and chain-rattling wraiths lurking behind your walls, the Brooklyn-based instrumentalist trio is anything but invisible. Bob Pycior (of O'Death, violin) and Andrew Platt (bass) cut their Skeletonbreath teeth in 2002, with former member Crockett Doob on drums, and in 2006 self-released their debut, Louise. Their relentless touring turned heads, and the sonic orgy of screeching strings and explosive percussion seized ears. Though Doob parted amiable ways with Pycior and Platt in 2007, Skeletonbreath's inertia was unrelenting, and the remaining duo sequestered the skills of Tris Palazzolo (also of Philly's Red Racket, formerly Red Rocket, and Grandchildren) and have since only gained momentum.

The band describes itself as "Halloween party music," and though garnered press seems to agree, there are whole lot more comparisons being made, and the only real unifying theme is that Skeletonbreath creates something ethereal and incendiary, restless, relentless, macabre, and yet somehow undeniably catchy. Ruberecords.org claims its "bursts of auditory mayhem that resonate in your head like a string of firecrackers." The Orlando City beat remarks on a "swooning eastern passion," and The L Magazine seems quite content to leave definition at fact: "A twisted, slightly aggressive three-man orchestra."

Daffodils, skeletonbreath, and The Black Hollies

April 16, 2009

Hey everyone,
With winter finally behind us, it's time to get outdoors to some festivals and take in some new music. Luckily, we got you covered. We got a couple new records coming out in the next month or two and a couple festivals coming up that ought to excite. Here's what we got:

Coming up in just a week's time is Meriden's Daffodil Festival!
Next weekend (April 25th and 26th) there will be tons of bands and festivities all taking place at Hubbard Park in Meriden. There's plenty of activities for the kids and grown ups, along with tons of bands (mostly from the CT area).
In fact, Sunday, April 26th, not one, but 3 bands from our camp are going to be performing for free. Come down early and catch M.T. Bearington, Titles, and The Mountain Movers. The bands start playing at 11 am (with M.T. going on first) and play throughout the day. It's bound to be a grand day out, so hop in your car and come down for the festivities!

In record news:

SMR014 is nearing the final stages of production and should be ready for consumption in a week or two. The catalog # in question belongs to Skeletonbreath. This is an instrumental project featuring the violinist from O'Death and members of Grandchildren. Their sound is pretty unique and has been refered to as:

"Not the raging metal band you might expect from the name, skeletonbreath is an innovative violin-bass-drums trio whose highly intricate instrumentals find the common ground between chamber music, Klezmer, and hard hitting art-rock"
-Time Out New York

"A twisted, slightly aggressive three man orchestra"
-The L magazine

"Weirdo stringsters skeletonbreath create stunningly intricate and melodious neo-classical compositions"
-Flavorpill.com

"Sounds like Humanoid goes to Israel"
-anonymous bar patron

And finally, on Saturday, May 30th, we'll be hosting an Ernest Jenning Recording Company mini-tour at Cafe Nine featuring The Black Hollies, La Strada, and Chris Mills. This show should be a lot fun and will get New Haven ready for the release of The Black Hollies' new Safety Meeting 45, featuring "Gloomy Monday Morning" on side A, and "Heart of the Country" (a Paul McCartney cover) on side B. We're rushing to have this ready for the May 30th show, so we'll keep you updated as to how that goes.

Thanks
Los

Even more records and videos

March 4, 2009

Here's a quick heads up, Safety Meeting is teaming up with Ernest Jenning yet again for another release. This time around, we're pressing the vinyl for Skeletonbreath. This violin, bass, & drum trio features Bob from O'Death and Tris from Rad Racket & Grandchildren. Here's a quick press blurb about the band:

"Not the raging metal band you might expect from the name, skeletonbreath is an innovative violin-bass-drums trio whose highly intricate instrumentals find the common ground between chamber music, Klezmer, and hard hitting art-rock"
-Time Out New York

The record's being pressed now and should be ready for their big 45 day tour, starting in April. This band is forever on the road, so take a look at their page and find a tour date near you, they won't disappoint.

Also, Titles has a new video for "We Have No Hands", thanks to their buddy Matt Cascella for putting it together. It's just below this blurb, so take a look, I think you'll dig it.

New Year, New Records, New Shows

January 12, 2009

Happy New Year Everyone,

Titles on Itunes Best of
2008 was a great year and Safety Meeting would like to thank everyone for making it something memorable. We've released some great records this year ( Quiet Life - "Act Natural", Titles - "Up With The Sun", M.T. Bearington - "Cloak Of Nouns And Loss", The Mountain Movers - "Let's Open Up The Chest", and Charles Burst - "Come Home And Feast") , gotten some great press (Titles and Crooked Hook both got featured prominently on Itunes, Titles making the "Best of" list for 2008, look left), made the change over to all vinyl releases, had some terrific shows, and met a lot of great people.

2008 was a lot of fun for us, and we're looking forward to even more in 2009. Keep your ears open and look for the "Chingus" LP from new Safety Meeting band, The Vultures, as well as more releases from M.T. Bearington, Quiet Life, Titles, and others. Also, we've got a new partnership with Independisc to announce. Starting right now, you can pick up the latest Titles and Weigh Down record over at www.independisc.com, a great local music retailer, offering up tons of great music from area and national artists.

Also on the horizon, Safety Meeting is starting to do some shows over at the GPSCY (204 York St, New Haven, CT 06520). This little known Yale bar is an awesome out of the way spot, and a great room to see some live music. The first show is on Tuesday, January 27th, featuring M.T. Bearington and The Simple Pleasure. The show starts at 10pm, there's a door charge ( two bucks or so), and there's some cheap pitcher specials. Should be fun, hope to see you there.

This Thanksgiving, Come Home And Feast

November 19, 2008

A while back I was gushing about the extraordinary musical abilities of Brooklyn native, Charles Burst. Now as Thanksgiving approaches, you'll get a chance to hear for yourself how amazing a songwriter Charles is. Saturday, November 29th, we're holding a record release party for Charles Burst's "Come Home And Feast" (smr12) at Cafe Nine (250 State St, New Haven, CT). Feel free to follow the links to Charles' myspace page to hear some song samples, and pump yourself up for a really great night of music, featuring local support from M.T.Bearington and The Mountain Movers. See you there!

Charles Burst Record Release Show

Here's What Time Out NY said about Charles: "Charles Burst drummed and sang in the (much missed) Occasion, but those in the know had more than an inkling that Burst is a songwriter at heart. He now sits at a piano, when he isn't playing guitar that is, and if his clear-sky melodies don't immediately resemble the Occasion's dramatic psych-pop, they have a similar way of rolling out and spreading over you. Get to know Burst now and you'll be ahead of the curve when his album drops in June." -Time Out NY

New Mountain Movers' Record Out Now!

October 29, 2008

Hey everyone,
The new Mountain Movers record, "Let's Open Up The Chest" (smr013), is out and available for purchase. If you read any of the news postings prior to this, you're probably already well aware that this is an outstanding record filled with beautifully played wall to wall psych pop. So far, the reaction for this record has been very positive and as the next batch of incoming reviews happen, I'm sure it's going to be the same across the board.
Feel free to click the album cover below to be directed over to the Safety Meeting merch store (which ships worldwide, by the way), or feel free to pick it up off of Itunes or whatever your favorite MP3 may be.

We pressed 300 of these, hand numbered them, and included a CDR of the music in every sleeve, so make sure you act quickly!

SMR013cover.jpg

Here's What Brian LaRue from the New Haven Advocate Says about this record:

The Mountain Movers, "Let's Open Up the Chest" (Safety Meeting Records). On this, their second full-length, The Mountain Movers ditch the horn-laden, airy Americana-rock of We've Walked in Hell..., ramp up the tension, turn up the guitar overdrive and move into mid-tempo post-psychedelic environs. Dan Greene sings about death, love, hope and dread, epic and existential concerns rendered immediate and relatable. It's the stuff of weird dreams right before waking, those dreams that spook you because they seem awfully significant and you can't quite figure out why. Greene tells his stories through efficient pop songs and though he occasionally sings a melody an attentive listener is pretty sure he's sung before, his craft is consistently admirable. In sound and lyrical content, this feels of a piece, as the debut did. It's an intriguing second chapter that makes one curious about the third.

--Brian LaRue

I'm sooooo excited for you, it's crazy. I've already heard this a thousand times over by now and know full well that this record outdoes the previous record by a long shot (nonstop psych pop hits, beautifully written and performed, and recorded by the best methods available), but this will be an awesome surprise for you. Come down to Cafe Nine and get in on this early, as we limited the press run to 300 (hand numbered, CDR included).

Doubt me? Check out "Last Chance For Summer"

Good News, Bad News...

September 23, 2008

Let's get the bad news out of the way:
It looks like Quiet Life is packing it up and moving out west. Very sad news indeed. For years we've had the luxury of having these guys close to us, and now, who knows when we'll see them again. If you're a long time fan, or if you've never seen them before, do yourself a favor, and come to the People's Center (37 Howe St, New Haven, CT) for their big Going Away Show on Saturday, October 11th (7pm). We're working with Manic Productions to help send these guys out in style, and we need you there to make that happen.

QuietLifePoster

And Now some Good News:
The M.T. Bearington record is out and available for purchase finally. The Record Release Show was a lot of fun, and you'll be glad to know that there will be more shows coming (including the Quiet Life Going Away Show - yet another reason to go). Anyways, check out the merch store and grab a copy of this limited pressing of M.T. Bearington's first LP, "Cloak Of Nouns And Loss" (300 hand numbered copies , CDR included), or feel free to download it off Itunes, or whatever mp3 download site you prefer.

M.T. Bearington

August 27, 2008

smr011cover

Well, we're just a couple weeks away from the big release of the much anticipated M.T. Bearington record, "Cloak Of Nouns And Loss" (SMR011), and couldn't be happier. This record is pretty big on two fronts:

1. This is the new project from Weigh Down front man, Matt Thomas. "A Cloak Of Nouns And Loss" is a collection of Matt's bedroom recordings that provided the foundations of the bearington band, which some of you might've been lucky enough to catch opening for Mates of State at Toad's earlier this summer.
If you missed it, don't worry, they'll be taking the stage at

BAR (254 Crown St, New Haven, CT),
for a FREE RECORD RELEASE SHOW, on Sunday, September 14th
with Begushkin(Locust Music). Show starts at 9pm and is 21 and over only.
This is going to be really good stuff. Make sure to make it out for this.

2. M.T. Bearington's first record with Safety Meeting also happens to be our first release under the new format. That means, this is going to be our first full length vinyl release! I've only heard the test pressings, and I'm already starting to salivate. The tones are beautiful, there's warmth in the recording, and not to mention that Matt's harmonies resonate really well on vinyl. Also, we've gone ahead and made CDR copies of the record and included them in the sleeve for you. We figure this'll be easier than giving you a download coupon. I'm really psyched about this one, and once you hear it, I'm sure you'll understand why.

The Big Mid July Update

July 16, 2008

It's been sometime, so here's what's what:

1. Going to Chicago this weekend to see the Pitchfork Fest, meet some people, and hopefully work some deals for Distribution and press. More on that when I get back.

2. The M.T. Bearington record, "A Cloak Of Nouns And Loss" (smr011), is off and being pressed. We should be getting it back in August, having a record release show sometime in early September. From now till then, the Bearington band is undergoing a lineup change and getting ready to bring M.T.'s bedroom recordings to life for all of us to enjoy.

3. The Mountain Movers' new record, "Let's Open Up The Chest" (smr013), is next up to be pressed, more than likely hitting the record shelves this October. The album was recorded by Mitch Rackin (Crooked Hook, Weigh Down) at Seaside Lounge, and mastered by Alan Douches (West West Side Music). It sounds amazing and I'm sure you'll all agree.

4. We struck a deal with Ernest Jenning Records and are set to put out the Charles Burst vinyl for his first full length release, "Come Home And Feast" (smr012). Charles Burst was the singer and drummer for the Occasion (their second record, Cannery Hours, is brilliant and totally worth your time to find and listen to).

5. And, finally, we have new T-shirts. Look for them at the next Safety Meeting Show. We got Travis Millard (Fudgefactorycomics) to come up with a design and it looks great. In fact, here's a photoshop mock-up of the design and color scheme.

MAY DAY! MAY DAY!

May 1, 2008

It's been a while since I posted one of these suckers, so let's catch up:

1. Quiet Life is back from their month long US tour. Good times were had all over the country. The boys from Quiet Life spent 5 days at SXSW, playing daytime shows, handing out Safety Meeting Record samplers (more about this below), then traveling out to the Pacific Northwest and back. These guys have been hard at work in their trade for years now, so if you get a chance, go out to one of their shows and see them do what they do best.

2. Quiet Life's "Act Natural" is out and available for purchase through our merch store, finer record stores (if your favorite record store is not stocking it, tell them to order it through Carrot Top Distribution), and mp3 download sites, such as Itunes, Emusic, Rhapsody, etc.

It features 16 tracks of Safety Meeting material, including tracks from upcoming Titles, andMT Bearington records, as well as an unreleased Mountain Movers track. This sampler is only available at Safety Meeting shows. The next one is Tuesday, May 30th at Cafe Nine (see point 4).

Humanoid "At BAR 8-12-07" CD Release

December 12, 2007

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14th HUMANOID CD RELEASE SHOW AT CAFE NINE with MURDERVAN, and BLOARZEYD 21+, $3 Cover

Come down and help celebrate the release of HUMANOID, "At BAR 8-12-07" (SMR07). We're especially psyched about this record, as we put a lot of time and effort into it.

The CD is a live recording of Humanoid's crushing mid-August set at BAR. Those of you who were there, we're more than likely blown away and are looking forward to owning documentation of that event. Those of you who don't know Humanoid, should. Humanoid plays loud, fuzzed-out, instrumental rock. The kind that you can get really lost in. The recording was done by Warren and Dave from Humanoid, and mastered by Scott Amore from Innerspacesoundlabs. The packaging for this release was all done in-house using 100% recycled cardstock packaging, soy based ink stamps for the artwork, and hand numbered and assembled by the band and myself. Did I mention that this is a limited press run? Cause it is, there's only 300 of these, hand numbered -50 to 250. Get there early and bring some extra loot for tshirts, CDs, and drinks for the band and myself.

Check out Humanoid's Myspace Page for song samples, befriend them if you like (they're awfully nice people).

SMR07-Humanoid_cd_label.jpg
Some accolades for this release:
"Humanoid's strength lies in their ability to create controlled frenzy. Like a poorly constructed roller coaster, one expects the band's instrumentals to fall apart in the midst of a thunderous calamity, yet no matter how close it may seem like the band is on the verge of collapse, Humanoid manages to pull it together." -J. Petrin, PLAY Magazine
"bludgeoning, brutal, really loud in a live setting. I mean, geez, they have two bass players. It's Robitussinal!" -B. LaRue, New Haven Advocate

Yet Again, more Free Entertainment

October 18, 2007

mischief night

Yup, we're doing it again.

This time around, we got Kimono Draggin and Smooth Medusa. This show is going to be a lot of fun. Both bands make the rock music. Both bands have been known to rock balls clean off (you might want to wear a cup).

Kimono Draggin have played Safety Meeting events in the past and have always charmed their audiences with their unique Pixies/Zappa/Stooges/Talking Heads/Spastic rock.

Smooth Medusa have been rocking the tristate area for a couple years now, binging a little bit of Greek Mythology to their punk/indie rock sound blowing up togas wherever they go.

Make sure to get a good costume together for this event. The costume contest at the end of the night is being hosted by reps from the New Haven Advocate and PLAY Magazine. The prizes are all from local independently owned businesses. There's no door charge. Seems like a no-brainer. Make sure to be there.

New CDs and What Not

September 5, 2007

Hey Everyone, I hope you had a great summer! We've been hard at work putting together a couple releases for you. Here's what's what:

smr04merch.jpgQuiet Life and Widower put together an awesome 7inch for us. Tim Easton does a little guest support for the Quiet Life stuff, playing on the songs and even recording the material. This one's a winner. check it out in our merch section.

SMR06-coverCT's own, Weigh Down has come out of their hiatus and released their best recording to date. The CD release show was just last Sunday (9/2) at BAR. It was a huge success. It was like they never stopped playing together. Do yourself a favor and check out some of the promo tracks (available in the player just north of this post). I'm sure it's going to be your new favorite record.

SMR05-cover And finally, Crooked Hook return to release their biggest sounding record yet. Those of you who picked up their first record know that these guys know how to rock, and this follow up is bigger, better, fuzzier, and an incredible ride through and through. This one hits the streets on 9/18/07, but.....

Crooked Hook is having their CD Release Show on Sunday, September 9th, at BAR 254 Crown St, New Haven, CT 06511 Come down, it's a free show. We'll have CDs for sale, and the bars will all be fully stocked with whatever you need (within reason). Tell all your friends, and make sure to come down.

Ideats....

June 5, 2007

Hey Everyone, Just wanted everyone to know that the Danglers and the Vultures live recordings are finally up and available for purchase. March 17th's show was a huge success and the recordings we pulled down sound great. Don't believe me, hear for yourself. Go to our DIGITAL SECTION and check out some of the samples, I'm sure you'll dig it.

In other news: IDEAT VILLAGE this year is featuring a SAFETY MEETING RECORDS SHOWCASE NIGHT, on Friday, June 15th, at Pitkin Plaza (Orange St, New Haven, between Wall St and Chapel St, behind Mocha). The event takes place between 7pm and 10pm. Due to the small size of the label, some of the festivals rules regarding playing the Plaza two years in a row, and the allocation of our bands to help the festival fundraiser, it's less of a label showcase night, and more of a "Los books bands" Night at Pitkin Plaza. Either way, it should be a whole lotta fun. Did I mention the show is free? Well, it is, and it's all ages, so come down and bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit on to maximize your comfort level. The lineup for the night is:
7pm-Kimono Draggin 7.5pm-Brazen Hussy
8pm-MT Bearington 8.5pm-Quiet Life
9pm-The Danglers 9.5pm-The Mountain Movers

Digital Downloads

April 5, 2007

Hey Everyone,
A while back, we made claims of a mp3 digital download section here on the Safety Meeting Records website. It's gonna offer up some live recordings, records that never saw the light of day, and a couple smaller eps and what not. Well, it seems like we're only a little more than a week away from launching the site. So come on back on Tuesday, April 17th, for the official launch of the Safety Meeting Digital store. On the launch date, we'll have available the Pencilgrass record, the Humanoid EP, and a live set from Lord Fowl.

What's more, you should keep your eyes and ears open, as we're gonna hold our second live recording session at Cafe Nine (250 State St, New Haven, CT, www.cafenine.com) on Friday, June 29th, featuring Titles, the Quiet Life, and a special surprise guest. Don't worry about trying to remember this too much. We'll make a lot of noise about it as the date approaches.

Who Wants a 45?

March 21, 2007

Thank You New Haven!

Hey Everyone, First of all, I'd like to take this time to thank everyone for coming out to our very first live recording session at Cafe Nine. The Danglers and the Vultures both sounded great, the crowd was awesome, and the response from everyone who were there has been overwhelming. So, thank you, and be on the look out for our next big live recording session (more than likely sometime in June).

Here's the flyer the Danglers put together for the event.

So Much Attention.....

February 3, 2007

Hey Everyone,
It's been a while, but we're back with a new update.

Our ears have been ringing non-stop now for a couple weeks, what with everyone talking about us. Check out all the press we've been getting.
Our Interview with PLAY Magazine

PLAY Magazine also recently put together a list of the top 5 local records of 2006 and Crooked Hook and The Mountain Movers made the list. Also on that list is Titles, who are going to be on the split picture disc with The Mountain Movers. Look for that in stores towards the end of February.

A few kind words from the New Haven Advocate

As well, as a "best of list" from the New Haven Register

Also, THRASHER MAGAZINE's February 2007 issue said this about Crooked Hook in the Notes from the Underground section:

"And if I'm going to mention heavy, I better mention the Crooked Hook EP I got in the mail (from Safety Meeting Records). It looked like one of those demo cds I get that usually end up in the rubbish bin after three seconds of the first song, but wait! This one's different! I gave it a chance because the first song is titled "I Just Might Crack," so I thought it might be a Maker's cover. But what came out of the speakers was the most completely fuzzed out, psyched, acid rock. This could be the lost Blue Cheer or Mudhoney record. Spark up a doob and melt into the couch, this shit's heavy man." -Wes Lundry

It feels good to be appreciated. Keep your eyes and ears open for more news and releases in the oncoming months.

....Of Holidays and Such

December 20, 2006

Hey Everyone,
Just dropping a line to wish everyone Happy Holidays! We've all enjoyed a great year here at Safety Meeting and are looking forward to everything that 2007 has to offer. The New year is gonna be really huge for Safety Meeting. We've got a whole bunch of projects coming your way. Here's a quick rundown:

In the next couple of weeks, we're gonna be launching our mp3 download section featuring live shows, unreleased material from bands of yesteryear, and all sorts of smaller digital download only projects. We're really psyched about this idea and hope it'll help bring CT together, establishing what some may call a "scene". It's doubtable that this idea would have ever come to surface if not for the visionary talents of Titles guitar man, Matt Wilson. Thanks Matt.

Also on the Horizon is our very first vinyl release; a split 7 inch picture disc featuring "Fate's on Your Side" from the Mountain Movers, and "Wait, I don't Know" and "Everything's Starting to Look Up" from Titles. We just finished putting this project together earlier this week and are really excited about it. Keep checking back for news regarding release date and shows (or just sign up for the newsletter and let us come to you).

Those of you who've asked me what became of the Lord Fowl recording, have no fear; it's on the way. Now that Vechel's hand is all better, we're gonna get them in to a studio and start cranking out the rock n' roll. If you haven't seen Lord Fowl play yet, do yourself a favor and go check them out. I was lucky enough to take a time out from my busy schedule and check them out at BAR when they opened for Dead Meadow and was blown away.

What else is on the horizon? New London's favorite sons, the Quiet Life, are jumping on board and releasing a full length with us in late March. The little I heard thus far from the tracking sessions sounds great, and I'm sure that the final product will make your head spin. If you're curious to hear what's in store, but can't wait till March, then go check them out live, they never dissapoint.

Well, that's all we got for now. Have a really great whatever your holiday of preference is, thanks for all the love and support in 2006, and keep your eyes and ears open for all the excitement that 2007's due to bring.

Mountain Movers hit the ground running

November 2, 2006

Hey Everyone,
The Mountain Movers debut CD is Finally Out! Thanks to everyone who came out to the CD release show. It was a really good time for everyone on our side, and hopefully it was for you as well. If you haven't picked up a copy of the CD yet, don't worry, we got your back. Check out our merch store or pick us up on Itunes if that's your thing.

****NO MORE PRE-ORDERS*******

Just around the Corner...

September 28, 2006

Great News!
The Mountain Movers cd is finished and back at Safety Meeting HQ. We're all really psyched about this one, it sounds great and the packaging is fantastic! Keep your eyes open for the Mountain Movers CD release show (sometime in late October/early November). The CD is being released to the public on October 24th, but presale orders are starting on October 1st. As a special incentive to purchase the cd early, the first 100 copies sold will be packed with a limited edition poster of Dan Greene's art work.

In other news, Lord Fowl has decided to work with us on putting together an EP for SMR, most likely coming out sometime this winter. If you haven't heard Lord Fowl yet, go check them out. Their name is synonymous with rock! For more details and proof of rock, go to http://myspace.com/lordfowl, and give the Torturor a good listen, I'm sure it'll agree with you.

What happened to August?

September 6, 2006

Well, September's here and alot of you are probably wondering why you haven't heard from me in August. The deal is I was busy setting up the Mountain Movers project, moving Safety Meeting HQ, and working my butt off so that I can continue to put records out. So, now that I'm settled into the new spot on Norton St, it's back to business as usual.
Here's a quick update of what's going on:

1.The Mountain Movers project, We've Walked in Hell and There is Life After Death, is done and off to be pressed. You should see this starting to surface in late October/early November. We're all really happy about the way it's come together, and I think you'll all be psyched too.

2.Safety Meeting Records is now representing on lastfm.com. If you're not familiar with lastfm. go check it out. It's a free online program that tracks what you're listening to, and shows you people's profiles with similar interests, thereby introducing you to music you may not of heard of, but might like. Sounds confusing? Trust me, it's not, follow the link above and you'll see.

3. Crooked Hook is playing the I Am Festival in New London, on Saturday, September 16th. Believe it or not, this is a free festival, featuring some really great national and local bands. Check out the flyer below, it looks like a great time.

Bridgeport Above Ground

July 31, 2006

The Mountain Movers have been asked to play the free outdoor event coming up in Baldwin plaza, Bridgeport. Get there early and bring picnic-type items with you, it should be a really good day.

Of Mountains and Apparel

June 28, 2006

Big News: The Mountain Movers (fronted by Dan Greene of the Butterflies of Love ) has decided to make a home out of Safety Meeting Records, releasing their first LP in the Fall, possibly entitled, "We've Walked Through Hell, and There is Life After Death". For those of you who don't know, the Mountain Movers have been charming people with their unique brand of narcotic pop for a couple years, appearing on stage with such bands as Wolf Parade and Josephine Foster, and writing beatiful pop songs with supernatural and psychedelic overtones that range from the dreary to the lively. Check back here for news regarding the new Mountain Movers' record, as it's due to drop in mid-Fall. For a sneak peak into what this record is going to contain, check out the Mountain Movers' myspace page, and take a listen to a couple tracks from the upcoming record.

http://www.myspace.com/themountainmovers

Other Big News: T-shirts are finally for sale here on our merch page. Go ahead, check them out for yourself. we're talking natural color, 100% cotton, 150% pimp, Tee with the Safety Meeting logo tastefully centered on the chest. Studies have shown that people who wear the Safety Meeting Records t-shirts are more likely to win lotto, avoid parking tickets, and get laid like a ridiculous amount of times.

Holy Crap

June 9, 2006

What's all this about? Well, apparently, Witch (J. Mascis' new stoner rock project) backed out of the Blue Cheer show at BAR, so Crooked Hook is going on in their place. It's really unbelievable that a band of Blue Cheer's caliber is coming to BAR, and it's a tremendous honor for us to share a stage with them. Don't miss out on this show, it's due to be a great night of fuzzed out guitar rock with one of the first and greatest psychedelic bands ever.

Other Music and another Show

May 5, 2006

Good News for people in the New York area! Crooked Hook's first ep is available for purchase at Other Music on E. 4th st, NYC. This is great news for us as well, seeing as how Other Music is one of our favorite record stores. If ever there was one place where you were going to give in to an impulse buy, Other Music is it. They take the time to make sure that they only order stuff that's worthwhile, which makes us being invited to sit on their shelves all that much more of an honor. Those of you who are outside of the NYC area, but are interested in seeing what they're stocking click here http://www.othermusic.com.

In other news, Crooked Hook has been asked to open for Japanese psychedelic kings BORIS. Unlike most Crooked Hook shows, this show is all ages. Yup, you heard me right kids! So, don't worry about busting out your fake ID, Manic productions got your back.

New Merch On the Way

April 20, 2006

Hey kids,
it's been a while and I thought I'd chime in to let everyone know that I've been working hard at getting the merch section going. Just last week, I signed a deal with indiemerchandising to warehouse our stuff. This should be up and running within the next couple weeks. Indiemerchandising is going to be handling all our merch (yes, the cd and the new t-shirt which will be available in the next week or so), shipping out orders the same day as they're placed, and handling any customer support issues that may arise. Just check back soon and you should see the new merch section in effect. In the meantime, don't forget that the Crooked Hook EP is still available through Stonerrock.com, and cdbaby.com.
In other news, the Weigh Down's latest CD is in post-production right and should be hitting the shelves come September. I know that's a long way away, but before you know it, there'll be mp3's, pics, and other stuff to tide you over.

New Distro through Stonerrock.com
